So I've taken to the blog to see if I can get some expert advice. I found out last week that it's about 99.9% for sure that this baby is coming 4 weeks early which means I only have about 5-6 weeks left. I'm in a panic realizing that I haven't prepared very wisely! I have the big items such as a crib, car seat, stroller, but other then that I haven't thought about the other things a baby might need! I've decided I better get the necessities that I will need immediately when he comes so I'm prepared for if this guy decides to show up soon and then I can get the rest later. So, my question is....what things must I absolutely have immediately when he is born? I know there are things that are great, but I'm not sure what I'll exactly need the first few weeks. Any help would be awesome!

i think we should have a shower for you!! Lots of old friends live in slc and of course all your new friends. Good idea right? Let me know 801 668 9210, Natalie Low
Seriously the Tranter Family needs to get on the ball! I'll mention it to my mom and get one going! Im dead serious! Are you registered anywhere?
Well I am glad I am on the ball with your shower in a couple weeks! I have heard that the diaper champ is a must for storing the nasty diapers. I heard that it is better than the genie since it can be done with one hand easily and the bags are standard garbage bags instead of needing a certain kind. Register and I can put the place down on the invites before I send them out!
Oh man, after reading the first 3 comments I'm so embarrassed! I didn't mean for it to sound like "I need a shower post" but how sweet are all of you! No pressure at all for showers...seriously...not my intention but so grateful for how thoughtful you all are!
I really am no help! So sorry, i'll be coming to you for help for sure one day! However I would love to join in the effort for a shower! Just let me know when and where! I am really good at parties! :)
Oh Suz I'm so sorry! Please let us know what's going on. I would say that for me I got by with diapers, wipes, burp clothes, a nose suction, blankets, and clothes. Those first few weeks you don't go out much. At least I didn't. If I think of more I will let you know. You are in our prayers.
I hope everything's okay!!! But how exciting, your first baby! Of course you'll need lots and lots of newborn diapers and also for this time of year my favorite thing is long sleeve onsies with soft cotton pants and socks. Newborns tend to have leakage from their diapers quite often so be prepared to change his clothes several times a day! :)--at least I had to with my babies! Also one of my favorite things when they are so small are those little receiving blankets, they are just the right size to snuggle them up in when they are brand new! Hope this helps! :) Oh yeah, and don't forget a binkie!
I hope everything goes well when the baby comes! I am so excited for you guys. Here are my suggestions: If your house gets cold, I would buy a heater to just keep on all the time in the living room or wherever you will be mostly with the baby. Babies hate being cold! Desitin, Purelan, movies and popcorn, lots and lots of onesies, stain remover to clean all those onesies, bottles just in case, sock-slippers for you to wear at the hospital and around the house (that sounds weird, but I loved having mine), and a Boppy. Everyone else has suggested everything else that's a necessity, I wanted to make sure YOU were going to be comfortable too. :)
All you need is me. See you in a few months!
Oh..and I need you to email that pic of the fam!
Hey Suz! You need a TRUCK LOAD of diapers and wipes.
Maybe it's just me but we had to go out and buy a diaper warmer after he was born because we felt so bad using cold ones in the winter - he would scream bloody murder at us, he hated it. So even tho you'll only need it at first I think it's worth it.
Hey Suz- Here are my thoughts. Diapers, wipes, plain onesies, a binky, and if you are planning on nursing...a bag of frozen peas. Just to put that over your shirt on your chest for a few minutes after you are done nursing feels pretty good if you are sore. Good luck with everything, it is amazing! Someday soon we should all have lunch in salt lake, it would be sweet.
Hey Suz-don't feel bad, one of my best friends is due the same time as you and just asked the same thing. Here is what I suggest-Get pj's that have a zip front-kind of like an old ladies duster-I know, really sexy but then it is much easier to nurse-no buttons-get a sports bra style nursing bra-very comfy so you can wear it to bed at nights-there are some good cheap ones at Target-man I hope no guys are reading this because it may make them sick-also, if you plan on nursing make sure you have a pump because you may need a little help at first if the baby has a hard time nursing and it will hurt like hell if you become engorged!!! Also make sure you have either little mittens or socks for his hands because he will be scratching his face a lot! Good luck!!!
Hey suzy, well since you are planning on a c section, one thing that helped out alot was a boppy pillow that wraps around your stomach if you are planning on nursing. The nurses taught me to do the football hold, where you hold the baby to the side of you so they arent resting on your stomach, but I'm sure a regular pillow would work just the same. Lots of recieving blankets!! Get the gown pj's for the baby, so helpful throughout the night when you are so tired and have to change the baby, no snaps or anything! Oh and for sure some kind of pump if you are nursing. I got so engorged and was in so much pain and that helped out so much! Lanolin cream when nursing cuz you will be so so sore! Sorry this is alot of stuff but these are some of my favs and helped me out big time! Good luck with everything!! let me know if you need anything, seriously! 0r need to borrow anything!
That is so exciting he is coming soon! I think everyone summed everything up. If you nurse don't get the disposible nursing pads, I loved the cloth ones you can wash; and gets lots and lots of lansinoh for before and after you nurse!!! Good luck with everything. Can't wait to see the little guy.
Oh my gosh Suzie! You are trying to out do me with your preemie baby ;) I hope things are okay! Well as you read my delivery was unexpected and I didn't have everything ready. Just know it will be okay and people can rush out and get you whatever you need.
Make sure you have bottles and binkies on hand. Since you baby will be early you'll probably have to suppliment the baby with formula (besides the nursing) to get the babies weight up. That is what I was told I had to do. My baby lost 9 oz's from when she was born to 3 days into the hospital stay. Make sure you have warm blankets to wrap the baby in because due to the low birth weight, your baby will be colder than most. My baby shivers all the time. We have to bundle her up since she is so tinsy with two blankets usually.
About the c-section.. you will be fine. I was SCARED out of my mind but truly if you have someone to hold your hand and calm you down the process is really quick. They give you the epidural and you are really loopy as they are doing it. The recovery and pain is the real problem but I won't scare you with that!
Let us know if you need anything!!
Suzy i hope both you and baby boy are ok!! I'm sorry i don't have any advice for ya cause you will be having your little bundle first, but if there is anything i can do for you let me know! Good luck, everything will be perfect and all worth it once you get to finally hold your baby (and you might be glad he's out early and you don't have to keep being uncomfortable and pregnant haha...i am already ready to be done Ah!!)
Suzy, let me throw you a shower!
Just kidding. ;-)
That made me laugh.
Anyway, I think the baby swing was probably my favorite addition other than the baby. Binkies are the best.
I hope everything works out OK. Good luck!
Wow...coming early? Good luck with everything. Knowing you, you'll be on top of everything and stubborn enough to figure it out if you don't. :)
My suggestions:
FOR YOU: a sweat suit for your jammies, but the top has to be zip up for easy access for nursing, Lanolin for nursing, heavy duty pads, a lazyboy recliner (I live in mine for the first few weeks, day and night), and Jenny.
FOR BABY: gown pj's (that way you won't have to change pants every time you change a diaper, just slip over legs), blanket for swaddling, lots of burp cloths, and Jenny for when you need to sleep.
FOR DAVE: Mountain Dew to be able to stay awake when you need help, and Jenny for when he needs to sleep.
You'll do great and before you know it, your baby will be one month old.
