The internet is a funny thing, it is the greatest thing in the world and can be the worst. My doc thinks Knox may have acid reflux, however he doesn't spit up a ton or scream, he just arches his back when he eats and has trouble eating. I guess this is called "silent reflux". Anywho...she just called me in some Zantac to give him to see if it helps. This morning I thought I ought to do some research to see exactly what it is I am giving my sweet child and most of the information was negative. So I thought out of all the mothers on my blog list, at least a few of you have likely had a child with reflux. So, if you have, did any of you give your child Zantac and did it work? Side effects? I'm nervous to give my kid any more medications than he really needs. He has been pumped full of stuff since birth.
Next question....I realized last night that I may be creating a problem for the future. We had some friends over and Knox was loving having another baby to look at and play with. It dawned on me that the only thing the poor kid sees every day is me and Dave, but mostly me. I don't want him to be the kid who will only go to his mom because he's never had any other interaction. So...does anyone know of any community things where you can take your infant to play or interact with other kids? Any ideas?
Oh and last but now least....GO COUGARS!

Hey Suzy so on the unit i work in at PCMC we give our kinds zantac all the time, And prevacid. Prevacid is more for your tummy and zantac more for acid reflux. Common side effects i have seen are constipation and diarrhea.Plus i was recently diagnosed with reflux and it has caused some erosion in my esophagous, i never felt like i was going to throw up i just have some pain in my left side chest area. He put me on zantac before he went in and scoped me and then put me on somehting stronger. anyway im not sure how helpful this is but, i have given zantac alot and kids do good with it and i have had it myself. good luck, Natalie Walker
I worry about Wyatt not having any interactions with anyone other than me as well. My sister in law does a weekly play date with another mother in her ward. I wanted to do that, but all of the other mothers in our ward either have no kids Wyatt's age or have like three kids. If you can find someone this would work with, it also helps with giving you an adult to speak with. I don't nkow about you, but some days I am just all baby talked out. Also most communities have music groups, and when they start walking they have toddler gymnastics which is really just them running and playing on stuff that they can fall on and not get hurt. I am thinking of gymnastics for Wyatt this winter when we can't play outside anymore. There are also swim lessons which I am also thinking about. I haven't tried any of the above much but this is what I have heard. As for now, Wyatt is stuck memorizing my face. haha!
Hey Suz,
I swear every kid these days has reflux. McCrae has it and has been on Zantac since about 8wks old. I make the pharmacy do grape flavor because it has a really bad taste they say. I do notice a difference and he has no side effects. It doesnt help to stop spitting up but it helps the burn and discomfort. I think it works. As for the interaction with babies I dont know of any but Rachel watches McCrae while I go to school. Abby loves to play with him. You are more than welcome to come to my moms house and play! We would love it!!!
So love the go cougars part!
And I have no idea about acid refulx
and last I think we need to start a play date thing because I fear Bailey is going to be the same way. How fun would that be though. Plus it will help Bailey and Knox get to know each other for the future when they start dating! haha
I wouldn't worry about him having others right now. Really the best thing for him is to have you, i mean how often do mama's get the chance to be with their little one full time? He will have plenty of time with others as he grows up, i say hog him up for as long as you can because one day he will be too cool for mom;)
I worried about interaction too and my local library story time I already told you about only happens once a week (as well as most others) but you can go to multiple libraries and their different story times. It's only 20 minutes or so but the babies love it! I'd say come with me but our kiddos are in different groups cuz of their age :(
Payton had Reflux. She took the medicine and at 2 months I started feeding her rice cereal in the tub (less mess) but the solids help absorb the acid. And she slept like a champ!
You are such a good Mom!
Cohen had reflux...he would projectile vomit and scream. It was miserable for him and me. The medicine helped so much! I don't remember any side effects, but you'll be able to know if it is worth it or not.
As for the mom time...ENJOY EVERY MINUTE OF IT! My little Cohen is starting pre-school EVERYDAY and I'm so sad to have him leave our home and ride on a bus to a school with not ONE person we know. I feel so blessed that I've been able to spend the last four years with him. We do love the library and go there once a week, or mom playgroups are fun. (sorry long comment)
About the interaction Abby was the same way I never got out a whole lot cuz I had her on such a routine and I hated ruining that lol. I have a group of friends that we do playdates with and all the babies are all different ages and we just get together and talk and the babies just look at play with each other. You should for sure come!!
Hey Suz... Cambree had HORRIBLE reflux. She would spit up half the bottle I swear. She was always crying and fussy. Anyway she went in for a Upper GI and sure enough.. after about 3 oz she started refluxing. Anyway my doctor started Cambree on Zantac, then prevacid, and last Nexium. Let me just tell you none of them really worked but what did work was giving her rice cereal in her bottle (which they tell you not to do but it REALLY helped) and we started her on a formula... Infamil AR mind you that was after we tried like 4 other formulas including Similac Sensitive.... anyway Infamil AR did the trick for the most part. Reflux is an awful thing and not all the medicines really work to help out. Also I started Cambree's on solids a titch early and that really helped too! Good luck! We all feel your pain!!
I have yet to have and easy baby. Crew was horrible with a severe case of Colic and Bensyn was/is a Reflux baby. I had Bensyn on Zantac and she is just getting off it! Reflux is such a horrible thing. Bensyn cried all day every day from the day she was two weeks old untill 3 months old. After a couple weeks of projectile vomit she learned how to control it and it turned to hidden reflux too! Which is actually worse in some cases because it burns there esophagus on the way up and on the way down. I also had her on the Enfamil AR formula that I don't feel helped much. The rice cereal in her Enfamil Gentlese worked best for her to stop the reflux. Just keep trying to find what works for your little Knox and remember that time goes by fast and he will grow out of it quickly, hopefully!
Suz- Sarah has some reflux issues also...i guess you have already read this from the comments before but so far giving her rice cereal has helped the most for us. Best of luck, hope you are well!
