Dave decided to do the Heber Valley Century bike race, which is 100 miles, this past weekend. He peer pressured me into doing the 25 miler, even though I hadn't really planned on following through with it. We made it a weekend trip with the Tranters and stayed at the family cabin and since mom offered to watch Knox, I decided I couldn't pass up a babysitter and decided at the least, I could get some exercise. The only problem though is that I only own a mountain bike. I tried talking Dave into getting me some road biking tires but to no avail. So, I set out for the race with my mountain bike, my mountain biking shorts, and my tennis shoes. I looked NOTHING like a biker and definitely didn't fit in. As soon as we pulled up, the lady next to us asked if I was really going to ride with my mountain bike and a few men chastized Dave for not at the least getting me some slick tires. It was good for him..maybe next year I'll have some slicks! But...after all was said and done, I finished the 25 and Dave rocked the 100 miler! I was so glad my sister in-law Sarah was able to come last minute so I could have a riding partner. It was a family affair with Dad, Robs, and Sarah.

The gang before the race.

My trusty mountain bike.

After the race...we finished!
Just a pretty cool side note....when we got back to the cabin after the race, mom came running out to tell us to be quiet. I was so confused until I saw this:

And this:

A whole family of moose had come to congratulate us on our bike race! It was so neat, they stayed around for most of the afternoon. Definitely the closest I will probably ever be to a big game animal like that.
Last but not least, to cap off a wonderful, eventful weekend (and probably against our better judgment) Knox got to enjoy his first 4-wheeler ride and the kid LOVED it. He is definitely Dave's child.

Thanks to the fam for a fun weekend at the cabin!

Woo hoo! Way to go!
Wooh! 25 miles, that's quite a feat! And a whole family of moose?! We got one in our yard when we lived up North--made for a fun day, heh, heh.
I love this post! And it was the exact topic for my next one-can I just copy and paste?? ;) love you!
Too bad I didn't know! You totally could have used my road bike (your about my height right?) then you totally would have continued to the 100 mile! (oh and you would have looked a lot better in my spandex than I do!)
I can't believe you did that. Very impressive. I own a rode bike and I can tell you that riding a road bike is so much easier than a mountain bike. Way to go!
This was the hardest weekend to date to not be apart of :( We talked about what you guys were doing all weekend and were feeling sorry for ourselves. We miss you. When do we not miss you? :(
